Profile

Born in Tokyo (Japan), Matsumoto started studying piano and electon from a young age. After graduating from the Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and completing his master’s course at the Conducting Institute of the same university, he started his professional career as a conductor in 2006, as the assistant conductor of the Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

Matsumoto has been performing more than 70 concerts per year, been regular invited by orchestras such as Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, Gunma Symphony Orchestra, Chiba Symphony Orchestra, Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Symphony Orchestra, Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra, Chubu Philharmonic Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, among others.

 

He studied conducting under Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Yoshinori Kawachi, and Nobutaka Masui, score reading under Reiko Shimada, and clarinet with Teruaki Matsushiro. Currently, Matsumoto is the principal guest conductor at the Grand Philharmonic Tokyo, the principal conductor of the Ryukyu Philharmonic Orchestra, music director at the Blitz Philharmonic Winds, and a professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music. Matsumoto also is part of a comedian duo, performing on TV and live. They participated in the M-1 Grand Prix (Japanese Comedy competition), getting until the third round.
