Profile

Seiichi Kotani was born in Tokyo. He graduated from the University of Tokyo, where he had begun studying conducting under Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Shunsaku Tsutsumi, and Tadaaki Odaka and composition and piano under late Akio Yashiro and Akira MIyoshi.

 He began his career by conducting the Magic Flute of Mozart. His activities have covered a wide variety of genres such as performing with the Japan Ballet Society, Toho Musical Company, and Japan Operetta Society.

 In addition to conducting Japanese orchestras, he has performed in international scenes, which include the concert version of the Opera "The Dawn of Japan" in 1997 and Madame Butterfly  in an opening festival at Korea's first opera house. He continued to study operas at the Bologna Opera House in 2005-2006. He conducted Solti Festival Orchestra in 2008.

Seiichi Kotani is currently the resident conductor of Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra and an honorary professor at Nagoya University of Arts.
