Profile

Founded in '49 in Bratislava. Its first principal conductor was V. Talich, who was followed in this role by L. Slovak and O. Renard. The orchestra's guest conductors have included C. Abbado, G. Albrecht, S. Celibidache, R. Muti and V. Gergiev, and they have worked with soloists such as A. Brendel, M. Pollini, M. Pletnev and G. Kremer.

The orchestra has appeared in many leading international musical festivals such as Prague Spring International Music Festival, Vienna Festwochen, Berlin Music Festival and Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence.
